Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil FAQ

Where is Acropolis Organics olive oil produced?

Acropolis Organics extra virgin olive oil is produced in Crete, Greece from carefully selected Koroneiki olives.

What olive variety does Acropolis Organics use?

Our Greek extra virgin olive oil is produced from Koroneiki olives, one of Greece’s best-known olive varieties and a variety prized for its fruity aroma, pleasant bitterness and characteristic peppery finish.

Is Acropolis Organics olive oil Single Estate?

Yes. Our EVOO is Single Estate, Single Mill and Single Variety, providing greater traceability from the grove through production.

Is Acropolis Organics olive oil Certified Organic?

We offer both Certified Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and our Bioharvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Our Certified Organic EVOO is certified under European Union organic standards and by BIO Hellas. Bioharvest is a separate, non-certified line.

How is Acropolis Organics olive oil produced?

Our Koroneiki olives are hand-picked and cold extracted, with an emphasis on careful handling, traceability and maintaining the fresh characteristics of high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

How does Acropolis Organics test olive oil quality?

Our EVOO is evaluated using recognized olive oil quality measurements including free acidity, peroxide value, K232 and K270.

What do K232 and K270 mean?

K232 is associated primarily with compounds formed during the early stages of oxidation. K270 can help identify compounds associated with later-stage oxidation and certain quality defects. These measurements are considered alongside acidity, peroxide value and sensory characteristics.

Does Acropolis Organics publish olive oil lab results?

Yes. Acropolis Organics publishes independent laboratory results for our Koroneiki extra virgin olive oils, including polyphenol analysis, oleocanthal, oleacein, acidity, peroxide value and UV absorption testing.

What does low acidity mean in extra virgin olive oil?

Free acidity is one indicator of the condition of the olives and how carefully they were handled and processed. Lower acidity can be associated with careful production, although acidity alone does not determine overall olive oil quality.

What does Koroneiki olive oil taste like?

Koroneiki EVOO can have a fresh, fruity aroma, green or grassy notes, pleasant bitterness and a distinctive peppery finish. The exact flavour naturally changes from harvest to harvest.

Why is traceability important when buying olive oil?

Traceability helps consumers understand where the olives were grown, which variety was used and how the oil was produced. Acropolis Organics identifies the origin, estate, mill and olive variety behind its EVOO.

Where can I buy Acropolis Organics extra virgin olive oil?
